I played (/beat) a shit-ton of games last year! 33 of them!!! I was really motivated to get through my backlog, because I started to realize that if I never "get on it" and start and finish those games, there's a chance I'd NEVER get to them!

And I'm glad I did! Now I only have 4 games left on my "official" backlog, and I'm confident I'll get them done...eventually. ...At a far more relaxed pace. From now on, I'm going to buy my games at a much slower rate! No more burying myself in them and saying, "someday"!

But, anyway, I played so many games last year I thought it would be fun to do a "top" list - for my own amusement, and maybe yours, too!
(Please note, though, that the reasons these games are my "bests" (etc) are personal, and therefore might seem kinda shallow - but I'm no reviewer, I'm not trying to advise anyone else on these, I'm just saying how I felt about them and why! Also, these games weren't necessarily released in 2016, that's just when I played them - my backlog started almost 15 years ago!)

So let's do this!

MY TOP 5 GAMES (BEATEN) IN 2016!
(In no particular order!)

--The Last Story--
The controls took a bit to get used to, but once I did, I loved this game! It's not perfect, but it made me happy in so many ways. I'd love to see more from Mistwalker!

Pros:

-Easy "grinding" - they practically hand you your levels, and quickly. If you need to level to get an edge on a boss, you can do it in minutes, not hours. I don't mind a grind every once in a while, but I appreciated this game's mercy in that area.
-No annoying (necessary) quests.
-Likeable characters.
-A simple story I could follow.
-SHORT AND SWEET!

Cons:
-Wierd-ass controls. (I was using the Pro controller).
-Ocassionally difficult bosses I needed help finding the "trick" to.

--Bravely Default--
An awesome little RPG with all kinds of options you'll always wish other games had from this one onward. xD

Pros:
-Great battle system - somehow, it's both classic and unique at once!
-Great characters - I love Ringabel!
-Options like "turn off random battles" may seem a bit cheap at first, but once you start using them you'll start to wish other games allowed for them. xD No more fear of being wiped out as you limp back to town after a tough boss battle!
-Awesome classes to play and learn

Cons:
-The final boss is kind of a bitch. Like for real.
-If you don't level up a lot of classes and get their abilities, you're gonna have a bad time.
-The repetition
-The repetition
-The repitition
-The repitition
-No really, I don't want to spoil anything, but if you don't like repetition, consider skipping this one. xD

--Shadow of the Colossus--
An AWESOME game that I actually had played years earlier, but never beat. All you do is ride on a horse to find awesome bosses, and then fight those bosses. Simple and beautiful.

Pros:
-GREAT battles, a lot like Zelda bosses, and you know I love those.
-Beautiful simplicity
-A gorgeous world
-A simple but emotional story
-Unique physics that look like they would suck, but they don't - think Ico, or for you current-gen cool kids out there, The Last Guardian (same studio!)

Cons:
-I didn't understand the ending.

--Fatal Frame III - The Tormented--
This was the only Fatal Frame I missed playing before Maiden of Black Water came out, so I went back to beat it afterwards. Same as always - a creepy game where you wander a mansion with a camera and take pictures of ghosts.

Pros:
-It's Fatal Frame
-Waifu Miku living with new lover friend Rei
-You take pictures of scary Japanese ghosts
-CLEVER jump-scares! Several times, after steadying myself, I felt the desire to shake someone's hand at Tecmo and say, "good one, buddy".

Cons:
-It's Fatal Frame (so, the controls are a bit of a pain)
-Having to play as Kei (he sucks, and even his camera sucks.)

--Pandora's Tower--
A game I expected to hate, because my boyfriend's been ragging on it for years! It feels a bit like Shadow of the Colossus (objective-wise), and plays a lot like Zelda. So. Well. You know.

Pros:
-Awesome "Zelda"-style dungeons
-Awesome "Zelda"-style boss battles
-ADORABLE CHARACTERS
-A story I could follow, despite being somewhat complex
-Not overly difficult or complicated!

Cons:
-The first enemy (NOT BOSS!) in the Inferno tower is a bitch for like, no reason.
-Without the internet, I wouldn't have figured out this one element of the last two towers
-The Dawn Tower has a glitch that happens at random and if you trigger it (and you will, if you visit that tower more than once), you'll need to unplug your Wii or Wii U every time it happens, so SAVE BEFORE HEADING OUT TO THE TOWERS!

THE MOST ANGERING GAMES I PLAYED IN 2016!

--Bravely Default--
The final boss pissed me off pretty good until I found a good strategy (with the help of the internet)

--Secret of Evermore--
I had quite a few issues with this one, some gameplay-related, some glitch-related. I got so furious at this game sometimes that I probably should have just dropped it, but now I'm glad I beat it because it means I won. >:]

THE MOST DISAPPOINTING GAMES I PLAYED IN 2016!

--Epic Mickey--
I just thought it would be more epic!

--Final Fantasy IV: The After Years--
I guess I expected too much from this one, since I loved FFIV so much!

--Kuon--
I had fun streaming this one, but I don't think it was worth the $125 I paid for it. xD

THE MOST SURPRISING GAMES I PLAYED IN 2016!

--Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon--
The surprise was YAOI!

--Shadow of the Colossus--

I didn't expect to love this one as much as I did!

--Pandora's Tower--
I expected to hate it, from how much my boyfriend ragged on it!

--THE DOG Island--

I had no idea this game would be so DARK!!!

THE WORST GAME I PLAYED IN 2016!

--Calling (Wii)--
The best part of having played this game was getting to stream it with all of you. So, have a special list of "pros" and "cons"!

Pros:
-MadameSith's Photoshop skills
-Meeting young Stay Puft
-Ghost yaoi
-Save cat
-It proved I'm actually not the world's worst voice actor

Cons:
-It's god damned Calling.

And just for the sake of comparison...

I won't play nearly as many games as this in 2017, or probably in any other year for the rest of my life. Which is a good thing. xD But I'm glad I finally played through these games, because I found so many gems among them!!

Now, what was the best game YOU played in 2016?
