Dogs can see in color

Journal Entry: Thu Jun 20, 2013, 8:42 PM

People tend to think that dogs see in black and white, but this is not true.
Dogs are "colorblind", but this doesn't mean they don't see in color.
It means they can only see a limited spectrum of colors.
The colors they have the hardest time seeing are reds and greens, like most colorblind humans.
Here's a visual comparison for ya: www.dogtagart.com/sites/defaul…

Why did I make this journal?
I was listening to a song from Disney's "Bolt", which implies that Bolt cannot see in color.

I just wanted to let everyone know that Bolt can totally see in color, and so can your dog.

I am tired and this journal is stupid.

 so can horses, goats, mice, rats, rabbits and cattle.
Cats can even see in color without light.

and chickens might be able to see more colors than us.

I didn't know cats could see color without light - or that chickens may be able to see more colors than we do! How many cones do they have in their eyes?

they have 5 types of cone cells
pretty impressive if you consider humans only have 3 xD

Mantis shrimp are even more imrpessive, they have 16 different types of cone cells :faint:

Haha, someone else told me about the Mantis Shrimp, and now it's like my favorite sea animal. :lmao: I caught one in Animal Crossing and kept it in my house. x3

I hate it when shows or movies give a "dog's eye view", and all you see is in greyscale :/

Haha, yeah, it's just inaccurate! xD

I'm pretty sure my dog can. He seems to "see" his peacock toys rather than his other dog toys. But I wonder how they do that. Find things...but I guess scent helps also with some things to relate things for them to know what they may be...

Is the peacock toy blue? Blue would be the color that stands out the most to him!

Yeah. Mostly blue, bits of green and yellow and orange. Also I think it helps that there is something in it the makes crunching sounds when it's thrown around. LOL

I know what you mean :3
Because of that the barriers of the agility sports are mostly blue and red because dogs can see when they have to jump then :3
